제주는 2007년에 유네스코 세계 자연 유산으로 등재되었음에도 불구하고 지나친 건설과 관광지 개발로 몸살을 앓고 있으며

제주 본연의 모습이 변질되어가고 있다. 타 지역민들에게는 새로운 사업 소재지로 또한 도시에서의 삶에 지쳐있는 사람들에게는 휴양지로 알려지면서 제주 본연의 모습들이 점점 사라져 가는 안타까운 현실에 놓여 있다. 제주를 방문하는 사람들은 제주의

자연 경관과 더불어 여러 편의 시설들과 다양한 콘텐츠를 원하고 기대하며 제주의 거주자들은 방문자들을 맞이할 준비를

과도하게 하면서 제주는 점차 도시화 되어 가고 있다. 이러한 문제들은 우리 모두가 문화의 기본적 개념을 이해하지 못한 채로

새로운 변화에만 이끌려가기 때문에 발생하는 것이라고 생각한다. 사전적 의미에서처럼 문화는 물질적 소득뿐만 아니라 정신적 소득까지 포함하고 있으며 언어, 풍습, 종교, 학문, 예술을 모두 포함하여야 한다. 제주의 정체성을 보존하려면 문화라는 테두리 안에서의 변화를 준비해야 된다. 제주는 특정한 누군가가 지켜야 하는 곳이 아니라 제주 땅을 밟는 모두가 지켜야 하는 곳이다.

이 전시는 우리 모두에게 변하지 않는 본연의 제주를 소망하며 밤하늘의 별을 떠올린다. 소망적 의미를 가진 별을 통해 급변하는 제주에 대한 문화적 책임감을 전달하고자 한다. 별은 장소가 바뀌고 세상이 변해도 항상 변하지 않고 밤하늘을 아름답게

장식하고 있다. 이러한 별을 제주에 비유하여 모든 것들이 변해가도 제주의 아름다움과 본질은 변하지 않기를 바라는 소망을

담아 “제주=별” 이라는 주제로 이번 전시를 준비하게 되었다. 이 전시의 주요 기법인 유리 공예는 제주에서는 쉽게 접할 수 없는 공예 기법이지만 국외에서는 이미 공예 장르의 일환으로써 인정받고 있으며, 관광 시장을 유치하는 등 다양한 프로그램으로

자리 잡고 있다. 이 전시는 유리가 가지고 있는 재료 본연의 특징과 장점을 부각시켜 주제로 선정한 별을 조형적으로 표현하였고, 유리와 금속의 융, 복합 설치 작업을 통해 추상적이며 현대적인 감각을 내세운다. 문화라는 테두리 안에서 보다 다양한 콘텐츠를 제공함으로써 시각 예술의 경계를 확장하고 제주 예술 문화의 다양성을 보여주고자 이 전시를 기획하였다.

Although Jeju was listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2007, it is suffering from excessive construction and development of sightseeing spots. For those who are tired of life in the city as well as a new business location for other residents, it is inevitable that Jeju's original images gradually disappear as they become known as resorts. Visitors to Jeju are hoping for a variety of facilities and diverse contents along with Jeju's natural scenery, and Jeju residents are becoming more and more urbanized as they prepare to welcome visitors. I think these problems arise because we all are attracted to new changes without understanding the basic concepts of culture. As in the literal sense, culture includes not only material income but also mental income, and it should include language, customs, religion, science, and art. To preserve Jeju's identity, we must prepare for changes within the framework of culture. Jeju is not a place to be protected by a specific person but a place where everyone who treads on Jeju Island must observe it. This exhibition hopes for the original Jeju that does not change for all of us and reminds us of the stars in the night sky. I want to convey the sense of cultural responsibility to Jeju, which changes rapidly through the star with the desired meaning. Even if the stars change places and the world changes, they always decorate the night sky beautifully. This star was compared to Jeju and all things changed, and the hope of not changing the beauty and essence of Jeju was prepared with the theme of "Jeju=Star". Glass craft, which is the main technique of this exhibition, is a craft technique that is not easily accessible in Jeju, but it has already been acknowledged as a part of craft genre abroad and attracts tourism. This exhibition emphasizes the characteristics and merits of the materials that glass possesses and expresses the selected stars as a theme, and expresses an abstract and modern sense through fusion and compound installation of glass and metal. In order to expand the boundaries of visual arts and to show the diversity of Jeju art culture by providing diverse contents within the framework of culture, this exhibition was planned.
